#52: Meditation #2

2 min read

In the past years, there is a new and very interesting question that get asked more and more people. The question is: Why the best length of meditation is 20 minutes? I think the even more interesting thing to look at here is why did that become a common question. Why not 5 minute, 10 minutes, 15 minutes or 30 minutes. - Healthy Futures | Meditation: Why 20 Minutes?

In the first post about meditation I wrote why I do it, but I didn’t mentioned for how long. I used to meditate round about 10 minutes and thought thats enough and I don’t need more. While trying out Zazen

Zazen is considered the heart of Japanese Sōtō Zen Buddhist practice. The aim of zazen is just sitting, that is, suspending all judgmental thinking and letting words, ideas, images and thoughts pass by without getting involved in them. - Wikipedia

where the time was splitted in two 25 minutes sessions and meditating happens with eyes open looking at a wall. I realized that these 25 minutes were different then the 10 minutes I usually did. I had the feeling that my mind was kind of almost quiet and a feeling kind of being in trance or similar. After that I experimented if 20 minutes have the same effect on me and yes it does. So since then my meditation routine is the timeframe of 20 minutes with the use of this Timer which begins with three chimes and end with three chimes, but with eyes closed since this works better for me.
