Ever had experience that someone waits for you to enter an entrance before you do? They usually say
After you
You could just say
Thank you
and enter the entrance.
If you want to be more polite you would probably say
No please, after you
And if the other person is also polite you get a
No please, after you
back again. And so on… A neverending story…
To save some time, if I’m that person that is going to enter the entrance and someone waits for me and says
After you
I try to be polite and say
No please, after you
If I get a
No please, after you
back, I just say
Thank you
if not then I’m happy to enter the entrance afterwards.
