#79: Habits

2 min read

So far my streak is 79 days of daily blogging. Since the beginning I have had the thought

What happens if I can’t blog one day because I have no connection to publish the post (e.g. no internet connection)?

The answer is easy

I just can’t blog at that specific day

So what to do about it? Daily blogging is a habit right now for me like reading, journaling, intermittent fasting, standing and sitting, meditation, cold showers, hitting two times a week the gym and going once a week for long run (10k at least).

Since it’s now a habit of mine I will treat it the same as the other habits, that means in cases where I can’t do it because something unexpected happened, I just try to get back on track immediately. That means in the case of daily blogging I just post the missing post on the next possible day along with the new post. That’s it!

I got this from the book Atomic Habits. Inside there is a process of “How to create a good habit”

  1. Make it Obvious
  2. Make it Attractive
  3. Make it Easy
  4. Make it Satisfying

In point 4 to make the habit satisfying you keep track of it and

don’t break the chain

It’s easier said than done, so from my experience it can always happen that you can’t make it because of something unexpected (Black Swan Events). So there is another point to make it satisfying.

Never miss twice

It just means, when you forget to do a habit, make sure you get back on track immediately. That’s just what I’m doing with all of my mentioned habits and with the habit of daily blogging.
